Consisting of lead singer Kevin Roy and instrumentalist/vocalist Jon Fennell, L∞PS are quickly establishing themselves as the top Acoustic-Pop duo in BC, Canada. On July 8th 2023, the duo earned national attention by attempting, and breaking the Guinness World Record for the most concerts played in 12 hrs (cities). The prior record was 8, and on that date L∞PS played 9 (finishing the final record breaking show with 23 minutes to spare in the 12 hour period). Starting in Squamish and finishing in Langley, Jon and Kevin broke the record to raise as much money as possible for the BC Childrens Hospital Foundation, and are humbled to announce that they finished the fundraising campaign with $18,402 raised for the BCCHF. L∞PS have a history of helping charities using their musical talents (including during the height of Covid-19, performing 3 separate 1.5 hr LIVE Streamed shows on Remembrance Day 2020 to raise money for the Kamloops Legion poppy fund, and in December 2020 making a 24 day “musical advent calendar” to raise money for The Salvation Army) and wanted to find a unique way to help the BC Childrens Hospital as the hospital is especially close to Kevin’s immediate family and Kevin with the support of Jon wanted to use L∞PS growing platform and skillset to help them on a grand scale!
L∞PS self titled Acoustic-Pop debut LP “LooPS” was released in spring 2022, with the album singles “Parachute” and “Checking Out” preceding its launch. Recorded with BC Music Hall of Famer/Juno nominated producer Doug Cox, “LooPS” is a throwback to the classic albums in that it is a true ‘no-skip’ record, full of upbeat radio friendly jams and soulful story driven ballads. The duo have treated the album as an 11 track demo showcasing the potential of their music. Their next single “Last Goodbye” (recorded at the Juno nominated Echoplant Studios) was released on all streaming services in summer 2023 and is the duo’s first true commercial release. It took a few months to gain some steam on streaming platforms, but as of spring 2024 it had generated over 35,000 streams on Spotify alone. For their next single release, L∞PS went back to Echoplant and recorded a radio-worthy version of “Mourning Girl” (a track from their demo album), which was released on all streaming services June 2024.
As singer/songwriters, Kevin and Jon write and compose all of their material. Established as a full time duo in 2019, their band name serves simultaneously as a homage to the town they met in and grew as a band (Kamloops BC), a reflection of the style of music they play when LIVE (Loop pedal driven acoustic pop), and finally as a reflection of how they see themselves as a duo: always equal, always band first, and stronger as a whole than the parts! Their combined life experiences pour into their art through both their songwriting as well as their connection with their audience, which is second to none. Kevin being a former RCMP officer and single father, who after developing severe PTSD retired to pursue music full time, and Jon who came from a family of accomplished musicians and was born to do this. The two have that rare connection in music where they are the ying to the others yang, and it’s this connection more than even their talent or opportunities, that WILL drive them to achieve their goals and find success.
Due to L∞PS commanding stage presence, their LIVE performances are known for being both memorable and captivating for the audience. In addition to performing their own tracks, their unique and original takes on cover songs that include creative mashups of classics, always entertain the crowd! The duo perform an acoustic guitar and piano based style with loop pedals incorporated into their sets, and can be best described as if Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi were to have a musical baby, it would be L∞PS. The pair have a library of literally hundreds of covers they perform from the 1960s to current top 40 hits. Because of their unique and versatile style, they have performed anything from small venues with intimate settings, to high energy large scale shows.
As an example of both their work ethic, and drive, the duo refused to let the global pandemic slow down their progress, honing their craft with numerous online streaming LIVE shows, and also used their talents to help raise money for local charitable fundraisers, as mentioned previously. In addition to ending the year with the fundraisers we have told you about, L∞PS also ended 2020 with a marathon 5 hr live stream New Years Eve show where they rang in the New Year for every time zone in Canada with all their supporters as the country was locked down at the time. Kevin and Jon continued their momentum in 2021, performing shows consistently throughout BC, made the top 100 finalists in the 2021 CBC Music Searchlight competition, and performed a full 6 song set in the (Digital) 2021 Vancouver Island MusicFest. In 2022, as they continued pushing forward with the self funded release of the aforementioned album “LooPS”, they were the winners of the Best Band/Singer award in the 2022 Kamloops This Week Readers Choice Awards, firmly establishing themselves as the top act in the region. L∞PS completed their first ever BC wide tour to end 2022, playing 12 shows over 3 weeks in 10 different cities. They built the tour around recording “Last Goodbye” at Echoplant Studios in the Vancouver area, and travelled all over BC on the tour.
L∞PS have a loyal and rapidly expanding fanbase throughout Canada, with over 6000 followers spread across all relevant social media platforms. Realizing that one of their greatest gifts is in storytelling, at the start of 2022 L∞PS started a weekly podcast series titled “LooPS: Diary of an Indie Band”, which they use as a personal “accountability journal” and also a way to connect with their audience further. They tell stories each week and share their progress as a band, but also use the platform to promote other musicians stories and music as well, which has helped spread the L∞PS brand far outside of their immediate circle throughout the past couple years. As of the start of 2024, the podcast has reached over a dozen countries with over 35 recorded and released episodes thus far with no plans to end it in the near future.
Jon and Kevin are determined to make a name for themselves as L∞PS but are doing it as authentically as possible along the way! Feel free to reach out to the band to connect in person as a press kit bio simply cannot do justice to how the duo present themselves and the impression they will leave you in person.
